The characteristics of ceramic fiber insulation materials mainly include the following aspects:
Lightweight characteristics: The weight of ceramic fiber insulation materials is much lighter than that of traditional lightweight refractory bricks of the same volume, only one-sixth of it. This lightweight characteristic greatly reduces the weight of furnaces built with ceramic fiber materials, reduces heat capacity, and reduces heat storage. It is particularly suitable for intermittent operation furnaces that require frequent start and stop, such as heat treatment furnaces.
Good insulation performance: Compared with traditional lightweight clay bricks and diatomaceous earth bricks, the thermal conductivity of ceramic fiber materials is much lower, as low as 75%-100%. This feature allows the furnace lining to be designed to be thinner while maintaining good insulation. The insulation performance is closely related to the density of the material. Within a certain density range, the higher the density, the lower the thermal conductivity.
High temperature resistance: Ceramic fiber is a fibrous lightweight refractory material with high temperature resistance. At 1000℃, its thermal conductivity is only 1/5 of that of clay bricks.
Chemical stability: Ceramic fiber materials have good chemical stability and can resist corrosion by most chemicals, except hydrofluoric acid, phosphoric acid and strong alkali. In a strong reducing atmosphere, some impurities in the material may be reduced, so it is necessary to pay attention to the impurity content in specific applications.
Good processing performance: Ceramic fiber products are soft and easy to cut, with strong continuity, easy to wind and process. In addition, ceramic fiberboard has a hard texture, excellent toughness and strength, and excellent wind erosion resistance. It does not expand when heated, is light, easy to construct, and can be sheared and bent at will.
Other characteristics: Ceramic fiber also has the characteristics of low thermal conductivity, small heat capacity, good thermal insulation performance, and non-toxicity. In addition, ceramic fiber has high reflectivity to light waves with a wavelength of 1.8~6.0μm.
